Adaptive Image Transmission

چکیده
This paper presents an image transmission control mechanism which – in contrast to existing systems – adapts dynamically to the capabilities of the client display as well as to the available transmission bandwidth. This mechanism is based on existing image compression algorithms whose strengths and weaknesses are summarised. For JPEG image compression, the predictability of the compression ratio depending on image content and compressor parameterization are discussed. An experimental image transmission system is presented which shows the feasibility of adaptive image transmission.
